Beneficial ownership high on agenda: PESI presents its research findings

On 1 August 2018, PESI organized a roundtable discussion to present the findings of its research on the disclosure and reporting of beneficial ownership in Azerbaijan.

Held under the Project "Transparency and Beneficial Ownership in the Extractive Industry," the event brought together the government officials, independent experts, members of civil society organizations and representatives of the international organizations to reveal the results of studying the international experience on beneficial ownership disclosure in the extractive industry and discuss a recommendation package developed with a view to improving the practice of disclosure and reporting of beneficial owners in Azerbaijan.

Opening the event, PESI Chairman Farid Malikov welcomed the participants and briefed them on the Project and state of its implementation. Farid said that the meeting would review the package of recommendations developed during the Project. He mentioned that the package will be finalized based on the feedback and suggestions put forward by the participants during the discussions, and later submitted to the Secretariat of the Government Commission on Transparency in Extractive Industries.

Speaking at the opening session, Farid Farzaliyev, Head of the Secretariat of the Government Commission on Transparency in Extractive Industries, touched upon the activities carried out by his institution to promote beneficial ownership disclosure.

During the next session dedicated to transparency and beneficial ownership in the extractive industry, Project Expert Sabit Baghirov informed participants about the results of his research in the given area and presented the recommendation package.
